We didn't set out to start a supplement company.

We set out to compete in some of the most epic races around the world.

We didn't set out to start a supplement company. We set out to compete in some of the most epic races around the world. However, balancing life, training and racing takes its toll on a body. Knowing that the overall health of an athlete is every bit as important as what happens on race day we knew that probiotics could help improve our health and immunity. But we couldn't find a product willing to put in the laps in the pool with us.

So we created Sound Probiotics. Our probiotic is designed by athletes and backed by science. As athletes we train too hard and sacrifice too much to not optimize every part of our training and recovery. Sound Probiotics was started so that every athlete can have the confidence to train and compete at the highest level – because winning takes guts.

Team Sound

After completing my medical training I set out to fulfill another goal, to participate in the world’s hardest cycling races. I wanted to test the limits of my body as much as medical training had tested my mind. I committed myself to training as hard as I could for these events. From ascending Mont Ventoux in France to mountain biking in Costa Rica I have pushed myself further than I thought possible.

What I discovered during this time was that my biggest fear was not my ability to do well in a race, but not being able to participate in the first place due to illness. Training and racing takes a huge toll on your body and when you add in work, travel, and balancing relationships it just adds to this tremendous amount of stress. When I had sacrificed so much for training and racing I didn't want it all to be wasted by being sidelined from illness.

When the scientific literature began demonstrating the efficacy of probiotics in maintaining health in athletes I took interest. Here was a way for me to feel more secure in my training. I could push myself even harder knowing that the likelihood of being sidelined from illness would be less.

As athletes we are so focused on competing, but we cannot discount the importance of the time outside of racing. Optimizing your overall health and maximizing your recovery are just as important as what you do in the race. We created Sound Probiotics to keep you in the race – to redefine what’s possible.

Somewhere between the full-time job, non-profit work, commuting, and time with family and friends you find time to fit in a swim.  Or a quick run through the neighborhood.  Why? Because you have that race (or three) on the calendar in the coming weeks and the thought of finishing last scares you enough to get out of bed before dawn to jump on the bike.  But the thought that you could nab a top ten finish - well, that gets you up even earlier.  And so you find time in your busy life for exercise, for sport.

I believe that sport and competition is a lifestyle.  It’s a choice to compete, whether against your personal best, or the fellow athlete on the starting line next to you.  We can all use whatever advantage we can get to continue to train hard and perform at our best.  My goal is to give each race, each workout my best, and to help others do the same.
